It was a hard decision to bring this photo to you, but we felt that to show you our travels, we should tell the full story, not just photos of tourist attractions, beaches and hotels.. ~
We are animal lovers and in fact we are vegetarians because we love them so much. So when we were taken on a day tour around the relatively untouched island of Koh Yao Noi in Thailand, we were really sad to see this little guy. He is young, less than 2 years old. He has been taken from the trees (we saw many many monkeys living freely on the island), and he is being trained to climb coconut trees to bring his owner and his family the nuts. We are very sad for him. He is chained up, and he looks so unhappy. His human ‘family’ live in a small shack, in harsh, poor conditions. ~
It’s times like this that we struggle with what we see on our travels. The family is clearly very poor...and this is an acceptable use of monkeys in Thailand.
What have you seen on your travels that has left you feeling like you wish you could help?
