Every hair donation AAAF receives is very special, and goes to helping us provide Wigs for Kids. It’s always extra exciting when we receive a hair donation from a member of our alopecia family! Lovely Lily has donated her hair in support of her wonderful mum, Cherie, who has had alopecia since she was 12. Such a beautiful gesture, and a very proud mum 💜💛💚 . . #alopecia #alopeciaareata #healthyalopecia #embracealopecia #AAAF #alopeciaawareness

#SnatchItOff We’re absolutely loving this campaign from the gorgeous gals at TheBaldieMovement 💜 This January campaign couldn’t come at a better time for our community here in Oz. Our gorgeous Support Ambassador Bianca is based in sunny Queensland, where the temperatures have been over 40 degrees this week! If that’s not an excuse to leave the wig behind today, I don’t know what is! Much love to all the brave and beautiful ladies who’ve found the inspiration to remove their wigs as part of this campaign. We hope you all find empowerment and joy on your alopecia journey 💜💛💚 . . #TheBaldieMovement #alopecia #alopeciaareata #healthyalopecia #embracealopecia #AAAF #alopeciaawareness . . #Repost from @biancayoung_uh with @regram.app

It’s easy to get caught up thinking things were meant to be some other way. I felt like that for a long time with my alopecia -- like it was a mistake that wasn’t meant to be that way. As I moved to greater acceptance I found the truth that the wonderful Terry Pratchett put so simply here: What happens is out of our control. What matters is what we do with it. What do you think? . . #alopecia #alopeciaareata #healthyalopecia #embracealopecia #AAAF #alopeciaawareness

Just before the holidays, gorgeous Brydie, member of one of our wonderful Alopecia Support Groups over on FB, shared her story with the wonderful people at YWCA Queensland @ywca_qld We couldn’t be prouder of how she’s grown to embrace her alopecia and for championing alopecia awareness. Brydie was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata at the age of 11. 'The shock of losing my hair really lowered my self-esteem. I began wearing scarves because I felt ashamed and embarrassed. I continuously wondered why I had been cursed with this auto-immune disease. The 5 stages of grief then became a reality for me as I came to terms with losing what I thought was the most important thing to a female – her femininity. After graduating high school a month ago, I really embraced my baldness and accepted that hair does in no way define who you are as a woman. I accept that people stare at me because I understand that I do not fit their average stereotype of a 17-year-old girl, and I don’t mind that one bit....' Know an amazing young woman, like Brydie, in your community? Let's celebrate her! Send her story (with permission of course) to [email protected] #findyourpossible#empowering #inspirationalyoungwomen . . #alopecia #alopeciaareata #healthyalopecia #embracealopecia #AAAF #alopeciaawareness

Our wonderful president Chel received a visit at work yesterday from a very special someone who came bearing gifts. No it wasn’t Santa - It was Junior Supporter of the Year Charlie! Charlie is an absolutely amazing kid, who has attended many AAAF events, wrote to his MP about GST on wigs, and even asked his friends to donate to AAAF instead of getting him birthday presents this year! Charlie recently had a school project where he needed to write about someone who was a role model. He chose to write about Chel. “My role model is chel Campbell, the President of the Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation because her passion, energy and strength of never giving up and spreading the awareness of alopecia in our community. She is a wonderful, kind and caring person, has a positive attitude and is not a selfish person but a selfless and encouraging woman. That is why I chose Chel!” As a special holiday thanks, Charlie dropped in with a card, including his wonderful role model message. We couldn’t be more moved by this wonderful gesture, or more honored to have Charlie and his amazing family in our community. . . #alopecia #alopeciaareata #healthyalopecia #embracealopecia #AAAF #alopeciaawareness

This time of year can be difficult for many people, and it can be hard to reach out if you're struggling. It's okay to feel overwhelmed or a little burnt out, and it's okay to be dealing with difficult feelings around your alopecia. The important thing to remember is that tough times pass, you have support available to you, and you are not alone. Help is available if you need it, and we're here for you. The wonderful people at @beyondblueofficial have recently released a strategy guide to coping with Christmas, which I really recommend for anyone struggling with the holiday season. For anyone having a tough time with their alopecia, this is a great time to reach out to your local alopecia support group. . . . #alopecia #alopeciaareata #healthyalopecia #AAAF #alopeciaawareness

A big shout out to gorgeous Amelia and the whole community at St Peter's Anglican College for this amazing Crazy Hair Day! We love seeing school communities come together in support of a student living with alopecia. Championing awareness of alopecia has huge benefits for young people with AA, and helps to build an informed, supportive and bullying free school environment. All our love and thanks to everyone involved in organizing and running this wonderful day! . . . #alopecia #alopeciaareata #healthyalopecia #AAAF #alopeciaawareness

Can you believe that little over a year ago we had less than 400 people in our community here on IG? We're so proud to see how much our alopecian family has grown in such a short time, and very humbled to have such a huge network around us. Thank you all for coming on this journey with us 💜💛💚 We cannot wait to see what 2018 will bring. . . . #alopecia #alopeciaareata #healthyalopecia #AAAF #alopeciaawareness
